    I suppose many seeds are pretty much designed to survive given the right conditions.

    if its an old packet of seed i usually try a couple of seeds, if they grow the packet is kept, if not they get composted
  • Dampen some kitchen roll and place a couple of seeds from each packet in a row,use permanent  marker before to write name on each row. Then you can see if the seed starts to germinate  and is still viable.
