Growing seeds...

Ok... so the cosmos and nigella have grown well in little seed cells, and have now been pricked out, and put into individual pots. Since the germination rate was so high, is there any disadvantage to planting the seeds straight into individual pots? I guess with the cosmos it meant that I could resow them a little deeper (since I started early, and they grew a bit leggy), but I have lots more seeds that are now needing to be transferred from seed cells to their own pots (panicum, centaurea, echinops). I'm just trying to be efficient here (lazy?) ... I think when I plant my next lot of cosmos in a week or so, I'll try planting them directly into individual pots (maybe two to a pot), and see it I can skip the pricking out stage...

Fair question.  Question everything!  But yes there's a reason seeds go into trays or small cells ...I think mostly so you can start in low nutrient soil, allowing roots to grow before too much top growth. I like a good proportion of vermiculite too.  When ready, move into mp compost with more nutrients.

Good point, well made! That makes sense. Thanks, @UpNorth!
