@Microagent I might help to say what size your arch is?

I see Blush noisette there in the offer pages,  that is a relatively low thorn variety if that is a consideration for you.
Also Iceberg, sorry not pushing you just also low thorn.

It won't matter if your arch is big or wide.
  • Thanks for the info @Pete.8 the silvery and pink combo works so well in your garden and I may try to copy you!

Good luck - it's a new border I created and I (sort of) copied it from a Chelsea design of a couple of years ago. Still work-in-progress, but gardening always is :)

    Thank you @Lizzie27
Just 3 years ago, from the bench up to the twisted eleagnus was all old uninteresting shrubs put in by the previous owners well over 32 yrs ago. So I thought it was time to do a make over.

  • Pete, what a lovely garden you created!!! And the rose -- oh my!!!!
Is it just rambling through the tree?! What a beauty!!!!
Tell me you propagate it too!!!!
    It looks amazing!!!
i wish I could create a garden like this!!!

Thanks Microagent - the roses are growing over I pergola I put in may years ago, and it just goes to show that (sometimes) if you leave well alone the plants know how to put on a good display without any help.
I'd never pruned any of it.
I haven't propagated any of them. Sadly they all had to come out when I had landscaping works done behind. But I've replanted with 3 x The Garland, so in a few years (hopefully) I'll get a great display again.
    Good luck with yours :)

Hi Rubytoo. Thank you for your suggestion. The arch isn't big at all but since its joined with a  newly built shed, there is a potential to climb/ramble over the shed!
I haven't got anything like this!

From the Q&A on the David Austin site -
    ************
Q:What is the difference between a climber and a rambler?

A:Climbers generally have large blooms on not too vigorous, rather stiff growth and most repeat flower. Ramblers are in general, much more vigorous. They will produce great quantities of small flowers, although most do not repeat flower. There are exceptions to both these rules: for instance Malvern Hills and Snow Goose are repeat-flowering ramblers whereas Cecile Brunner Climbing is a once flowering climber with small flowers.

Most climbers are best for walls, trellises, arches, obelisks whereas ramblers are generally better for growing into trees and covering pergolas or large structures such as garages or sheds.
    *************

I had 2 Felicite et Perpetue ramblers growing on the front of a pergola for years (and a bigger Frances E Lester behind). they were never pruned and gave a stunning display for about 3 weeks each year-

Sadly they had to come down for landscaping works behind, but last year  I replanted with 3 The Garland ramblers

Pete, you must be a rose whisperer! I can't take my eyes off this photo!!! So beautiful!
