Hi Berghill, apologies for the delay in replying and thanks for your response.  That's a great idea re: porous free-draining compost.  Either that or I marry dear Monty Don instead?! ;).  I do tell my husband but occasionally he doesn't quite listen; he means well but he kills with watery kindness!  Thanks again.  P.S.  My Hellebores are now more upright today, thank goodness!  THANK YOU to everyone for your help.  :)

I find that hellebore flowers sometimes go floppy ina sharp frost but soon firm up when the temperature rises.

  • Hi Dovefromabove.  I shall be on the lookout for floppy Hellebores in any future sharp frosts.  And I shall be on the lookout for my husband with any watering receptacle in future!!!!!  Thanks for your reply.  :)

:)@linzijayne74 .... My snowdrops were floppy in the hard frost this morning ... they all perked up by mid afternoon ... they’ll probably be floppy again by tomorrow :/

It's always done so before, but at the moment it isn't, and it's been mild (for January) in recent days. It's a Walberton's Rosemary FWIW ...

    Never had floppy snowdrops!
  • Hi @Dovefromabove; hope you're well.  Your poor snowdrops, they're up and down like a yo-yo!  @DampGardenMan Yes, it's been mild on the whole, hasn't it?  Although there have been some near-freezing nights lately here in Droitwich, Worcestershire.  I hope my Hibiscus will be ok!  :) :O

A really hard frost again here in Norfolk and my snowdrops have flopped again.

I thought of this thread when I looked out the window this morning to frosty grass and hellebore flowers lying flat on the ground! Needless to say, two hours later and they're standing tall again.

Just like mine in the frost this morning ... they always do this in the frost. Think the OPs OH is off the hook  ;)

  • Hi again @Dovefromabove; thank you for your photos of floppy Hellebores; they *are* indeed floppy!  I'm sure they're upstanding again now?  I don't know about your area but in Worcestershire it's mild again for the next couple of days (then chilly again Sunday onwards), so perhaps yours will be standing to attention for a couple of days now it's getting (slightly) milder?!  :) .  Hi @Rose121...I hope your Hellebores have stood up now?!  I feel like lying down in bed again when it's a frosty morning to be honest, so I have sympathy with our flowers!  :)
