When the photo started unfolding I thought bulbs of some sort but now I've seen the roots I think it is a day lily, Hemerocallis.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Thank you - they were taken from my son's garden and I don't remember seeing day lilies in there, though it's a good possibility.

Day lily, but when they get congested they won’t flower, good to split them up every three years.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Just found your post in my Spam folder - so belated thanks for your advice!
  • Hi if its not a Day Lily it could be a Hosta clump.
it would still be better to split the clump in two ready for Spring.
  • I definitely think it's a day lily, John - I've checked online following previous suggestions.  Agree that it needs to be split.  Thank you.
