What plant is this

ClipClip Posts: 13
Plant or the head was in a vase of dry flowers at my mams house(RIP). I brought it home as it rattled and the black seed is from it. Any ideas as I would like to see it grow as a memory for her. Thanks

I would say from the shape of the fruit and the seed, something from the cucurbit family - possibly a gourd of some sort.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Agree and looks very much like a cucurbit seed.  The probable gourd has a stick pushed into it for mounting in the arrangement.  The seeds may grow as long as they are not more than a few years old and the climbing plant will resemble a cucumber plant with trumpet shaped flowers (probably yellow.)  Most things in this family are not very hardy and best grown in a greenhouse.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
