Browning Conifer Hedge

Hi Everyone.
At the end of last summer and especially autumn i noticed that my conifer hedging was becomeing brown in patches. Obviously some sort of aphid or mite is attacking them. I have quite a large area of this hedging and therefor want to prevent any further spread.
My questions to you guys are;
Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to halt it?
Is there something i can spray myself? (i have had a look and there seems to be many products but are there any that are really successful)
Is there something i can spray at this time of year?
Is there something that kills mosts aphids and mites?

Any help and reccomendations is much appreciated.

    Don't spray with anything unless you are certain that it's a critter causing the problem.
    There've been several threads recently about browning hedges and I'd bet many of them are suffering from last year's hot, dry summer (after all, who waters an established hedge when there are other more precious plants that need to be nurtured through a drought?)

    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Hi Jenny. very good point. That had crossed my mind but thought that if it was down to drought then the whole thing would have been affected. However, I will do some investigation work to see if I can see and identify any critters.
