When to start dahlias for cuttings

oooftoooft Posts: 191
Hello. I grew a load of dahlias last year and started them indoors to coincide with the end of the frosts so they could get out ASAP. This year i would like to start them off earlier so that i can get cuttings and hopefully get the cuttings flowering this summer. I will be doing this in a cold but frost free conservatory. I am ordering from Peter Nyssen and would like to know what delivery date to put on the order. I am in the central belt of scotland. Cheers

I bought mine new last spring and potted them up in the polytunnel.  This would have been March.   Even with the warmer temps we have here it took a while before they produced shoots so you'll need considerable warmth to get them going early in central Scotland.

Here's what the RHS advises on dahlia cultivation and propagation - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=592

The small garden channel on youtube is helpful. Here is a link to what you are looking for: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cfcno1sajnQ

Thanks for the comments. I think i will set up a few experiments with the ones i didnt like so much. Start one off at end of jan in warm room, one in conservatory. If i lose them it's no great loss but if they do well i'll have a plan for next year
