potatoes and manure

Is it too late or can I put a layer of (home made) manure on the plot I plan to plant potatoes in? I'm in Scotland so it will be late March before they go into the ground. Any advice welcome.

I don't think it matters hugely - do it when the weather is kind, the soil is reasonably damp and you're feeling up to it.

Thanks for the help, in that case I'll get the compost on in the next couple of days.
