Did they add that caveat to the article? There is more than just one article.
Life by trial and error. Yep,every single day! Should we should just give up if something fails first time round?
I suppose it's also called the survival of the fittest. It was the way I learned to cook but I wouldn’t have written a book of recipes when I was nineteen based on that unless I had a very good lawyer. All recipes are by trial and error, someone had to give it a go in the first place to get any sort of recipe, the books don't just appear by themselves. Experienced plant growers have gained knowledge over time, they have made mistakes and learned from them not given up at the first hurdle. It's why humans no longer live in caves,we learn through experimentation, trial and error, sometimes with bad or fatal consequences but we still push forward, not always for the better, but we still do it anyway!

Someone gave me a n orchid. It flowered and then sulked for years until I bunged it in top of a wardrobe out of the way of the builders and forgot about it. When I eventually remembered it, I noticed that it had sprouted new leaves and has since flowered again. They are stubborn and wait til they get what they want. Somebody in the forum suggested that it had the soul of a suitcase. They were right.
@tamara.adiga92 Welcome to the forum! Please don't be put off by all the comments. (Bet you didn't realise how many there would be!) All the members on the forum are very nice and everyone has their own opinion of things. You will learn a lot if you are interested in plants and gardening. Treat yourself to another orchid but keep the roots intact. Could turn out like the one @pansyface has shown.
Hydroponics are used a lot in commercial growing of fruit and veg under glass. It has the advantage of cutting out any soil based pathogens and makes for 'cleaner' growing conditions. It is also very much cheaper than sterilising tonnes of soil. It does makes sense in large-scale production but there is no harm in experimenting with it at home. Best of luck @tamara.adiga92 and I hope your orchid does root.

I'm not in to exotic orchids as such but have had good results from pleione orchids, the small mauve variety. After purchasing a few 'bulbs' a couple of years ago I followed the detailed instructions on how to grow them successfully (on Google) and have had them multiply enough so as to be able to pass on a few to friends. For anyone wishing to grow orchids I would recommend these as an orchid to try.
OP, wouldn't worry about your orchid. I love orchids and have grown them for years, but have just killed ten plants by mistake. Don't get hung up. The flower itself should last for weeks in water. The rest of the plant might grow new roots when planted in wood chip. I doubt it, but it's always worth a try. If you like orchids, get another from a supermarket, read up on them and watch a few of the myriad vids on Youtube. Look and learn and enjoy your orchid for years.
