Small Christmas tree

Hi everyone
Happy new year

Got a small Christmas tree from a visit to santa before Christmas.
Think the pot is too small. Could you recommend which compost would be best for it.

Thanks

Hi Gardenqueen. Happy New Year to you. I think that an ericaceous compost would suit your tree if you cannot plant it into the ground.

    Hi Gardenqueen :)

Spruce varieties of Christmas tree seem to grow pretty well hereabouts on the alkali and the acid soils of East Anglia ... but there are several different varieties of evergreen sold as Christmas trees nowadays.  If you’re not sure shat you’ve got we may be able to identify it with a photo or two.

One thing is certain ... whether acid/ericacious or alkali the growing medium needs to be loam-based and not one of the light fibrous multi-purpose composts.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
