Laura`s lawn

My Guide dog puppies dig holes in my lawn, I fill and re-seed, cover the area in open mesh  but this is not working. The seed grows, but then seems to disappear as the weather cools off. My soil is clay and I aerate and pour sand in the holes, but I am still left with a patchy and lumpy lawn which I am desperate to get presentable as I am open to the public in June in the N.G.S. Garden scheme. I am tempted to roll it , but this will compact it more, it is uneven because of the patchy grass/bare soil. I have tried raking with a `tine' rake, but this just scores the clay. Should I wait until the Spring and re-seed it then.

I would say yes, wait until the Spring. This colder weather means the seeds won't germinate in any case. Any joy with training the puppies to stop digging? Very difficult l know !  :)

The best time to sow grass seed is Spring or Autumn when the soil is moist.
Another option to fill small gaps is to sow grass seed in a pot/tray etc and when it's a couple of inches high you can use it to fill gaps in your lawn.
I also have a dog and have come to the conclusion you can't have a dog and a lovely lawn
    Best of luck!
