I like the planters no idea if they are good, but they tie in nicely with the railings. You might need a bit of something behind the coco liner to help keep moisture in a bit more.
Sometimes keeping it simple is more effective. The little euonymous as already suggested are good. I recently got a tiny leaved one, E. fortunei minimus. It looks so far to be a trailing one, tiny dark leaves with a silver vein in the middle. It might not be a strong enough contrast for what you want though. I got it because it looked cute, and it is still trailing in its pot. And there are others.
Vinca minor if you wanted a little bit of flower. You have a choice of leaves with those too, variegated or plain. There is a hose in hose double one Atropurpurea that is a wine purple / maroon colour flower. Might look good against the white wall.
Although considered ground cover, I have had a couple of clumps in pots as I need to revamp a bit of border. They have sat on a tall planter and trailed down looking rather nice despite me neglecting them most of this past year.
