Huge gusts overnight  quite frightening thinking of all the big trees too close to the house. Fortunately no damage this morning. Just had an almighty hailstorm  though, glad we were indoors

I thought I'd tell you about the huge hailstorm here on the 20th June when we were coming back to Dordogne, France from the UK. It trashed my garden and there was a puddle in the dining room (luckily not leaked since) but we hadn't been out until this week because I had Covid. Now I'm better and we've been out. Most of the houses in Riberac have sheets of plastic covering the rooves and the clearing up work and covering of rooves is still going on. The firemen are doing most of it. A local village, Vanxains has suffered really badly, huge hailstones and a 1.5 metre deep mudslide flowed through the main street. A lot of people are homeless, staying with friends or in the village hall. My handyman, CB, took photos. It was actually a tornado, a huge black cloud shaped like a funnel, whirling round. He said it was terrifying and sounded as though the village was being bombed. I was lucky, only on the edge.

Today it's raining, only 15°, unusual for Dordogne the end of June.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • My dog and I were deluged by a massive hail storm when out walking last week. Great big lumps of ice, in June. Really!

Hosta suffers from hyperthermia if it's under 30c. Been very pleasant low 20s here.Had lunch out at our usual yesterday, then walked round Sovereign Harbour Eastbourne, clear blue sky,it could have been the South of France or Spain
