Thanks, @Guernsey Donkey2.  That's an ancient beech tree, and the bronze-leaved plants are seedling beech which have retained their autumn colour.   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Rain came in about five, still warm 5.3°c now the breeze has moved around to WSW 5mph and the barometer is down to 992.9 and the visibility is down from 40km an hour ago to 16km

We escaped the sleet today but looks like snow might arrive on Thursday. Work colleagues who live up the valley are already having snow and trying to swap shifts to avoid travelling on Thurs (plus schools often close leaving them without childcare).
Go easy in the snow and cold folks.
My garden and I live in South Wales.

  • We've got a good four inches of the white stuff here, and temps hovering just above freezing, but not enough to give any significant melting.
Just come in from knocking snow off the smaller conifers, you could almost hear the sighs of relief!
Did an emergency shop run when it started snowing heavily yesterday, to ensure I wouldn't run out of sheep feed or fresh bread and milk if we got snowed in. Main road home littered with trucks that had come to a standstill, I had to overtake 9 or 10 of them. Think I was probably the last car out of local town, they closed the main road 10 minutes after I got in!
New car (Honda CRV) lived up to its credentials though, I like it a bit better now :), though don't see much likelihood of getting out for a few days at least.
  • 6 degrees here this morning with cloud, however this afternoon we have had sunshine and clear skies with a reading of 9 degrees and a tropical 15 degrees in our greenhouse.
