In few weeks, look again and once you can see tiny green buds at a joint, you can cut off the growth above this point and it will regrow in the spring. If you leave long trailing growth, it will still regrow but may become leggy and top-heavy. Your top photo looks like a living plant; the rest may or may not be, but I wouldn't give up on them yet.
I thought I had lost my "Daniel" clematis, as may be pruned too hard. This article gives confidence to leave and see if new growth eventually comes through. Thanks all.
