I loved Fingers in the Sparkle Jar too, Chicky. I'm on the lookout for the Morville books now, hadn't come across them before.

I always mention this, but my favourite gardening book is We Made a Garden by Margery Fish.

  • Ooh thanks for all the recommendations Chicky and LG. Will add them all to my list. I have a book voucher to spend so will look out for them 😀

I'm going to RHS Harlow Carr tomorrow so will see if I can get hold of the Prickotty Bush. I love the way Monty Don writes so glad to hear it is worth getting hold of.

I'm sure I have the Curious Gardener on my book shelf but don't remember it so will have to dig it out and have a re-read.

Is the secret Life of trees based on the Judi Dench programme?

I  like Helen Yemms "Gardening in your Nightie" and "More Thorny Problems" books. Beth Chatto's "Gardening Notebook" is also good as is Anna Pavord.

I read 'Wilding' by Isabella Tree just before Christmas and it was the BEST book I read all year.
I generally read novels/thrillers etc so a book like this was a departure for me,but it was so worth it!

@PoddingtonP Don't know if you found out yet.
The bit I heard was possibly the book Rosy mentioned.

    Peter Wohlleben

Peter Wohlleben is the acclaimed author of the international bestsellers The Hidden Life of Trees and The Inner Life of Animals,

Taken from this link, it says a bit more under the picture bit. Other people were involved in the programme discussion.

Again I only looked up what Judi Dench's programme was, I think it is coincidence (not seen it).
She likes trees :)  She presents a programme called.
     My passion for trees.
Or it may be a recent trend, so all things tree are getting made into programmes getting an airing.

    Hope that helps.

Lots of great ideas here! Will keep me going for a while. Looks like the Prickotty Bush got a mention in this month's GW magazine, hence perhaps many of the cheaper second hand editions have been snapped up: but even then they mentioned that copies were £40+, so it's obviously always been scarce.

Don't know how current the web page was, but I looked the other day and Waterstones had it listed as an out of stock paperback for £11 or £12 pounds.
Sorry if it is a point in the wrong direction, but just in case.
Or if that is the second hand price for just a paper back?! As the hard covers seem to be going for a lot more than that.
