How do I care for Christmas cactus

  • Some good advice from you all, thank you. What should I feed it Busy Lizzie? Is there a particular cactus food I need or can I just use very diluted tomato feed but don't  know what ratio?
  • All I know to do is every few years lift out of pot, brush off old soil/compost and renew in same pot, also time to split the plant too, but never told to feed. If anything I add a few long acting feed granules at that time or to the water at a time when it appears to be growing strong.

I didn't, but the cuttings took, the plants died 2 - 3 years later, but I think they rotted because I over watered.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Mine has just started to flower, bit late for Christmas!!!
  • That's a nice healthy plant widgetwilk - better to flower now than not at all.  Ours flowered in November and was all finished by Christmas - luckily I had an orchid and poinsettia in flower over the Christmas period.
