I have two large 'Mock Orange' Bushes in my garden and I want to re position one of them to a shadier area. When would be the best time to move it and what type of compost should I use when replanting it?
I'd move them any time before they come back into growth. So long as the ground isn't frozen, or waterlogged you should be fine. I'd add some well rotted garden compost if you have it, otherwise I'd not bother . Assuming your soil is in good fettle. Just make sure you get as big a root ball as you can to minimise "shocking" the plant.
Do you mean Choisya, an evergreen shrub, or Philadelphus, deciduous? The danger of using 'common' names is that both these shrubs can be known as 'mock orange'
If it's the former, Choisya, I would wait until the soil warms up in Spring, as being evergreen they are not wholly dormant and a move now could damage the roots.
