    I'm not aware of having to do it with other hellebores, Lizzie, but they were big plants, so it was easier when planting them, although I moved a mature one this year, and I kept it reasonably near the surface too. Looking at recently, I'm glad I did that, because the growing points are right in at the base, and it's a border with permanently damp soil.

    I felt that the little ones had just been too small to cope with the damp soil, even in small  pots, so I was extra careful. I expect it wouldn't be an issue if you were planting in better conditions.  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    I have a whole bunch of self-seeded little h.nigers this year.  I hope they survive the winter!
