It's been done already Lyn.  Canadian scientists have shown that just adding a small amount of seaweed to cattle feed reduces methane output by 99%!  Irish farmers are adopting it to help with their output.

I sort of understand some of it @hogweed but on a scale of 😇to👺, how should I feel about the forgotten food at the back of the fridge or the inedible  result of culinary experiments?

Our kitchen waste is normally collected separately.  Not this week though, the caddy was emptied into the back of the general waste lorry.  Presumably too busy to do the job properly.  When you see that happening it's not surprising that people don't bother to separate items out.

The only time I ever put out "food waste" is when we have a chicken carcass. Everything else is either eaten, or composted

I agree. It's all very well people making the effort to do the right thing, but when you see that sort of thing, no wonder folk don't bother. It needs a focused, co ordinated mammoth effort from the authorities if it's to change.
I clean plastic containers as a matter of course, I separate sticky tape from card so that it doesn't 'contaminate', I strip little pieces of card from anything plastic to make sure it can go in the recycling rather than general waste wherever possible. It's second nature, but you often feel you're swimming against the tide.  :/

Same here Hosta, I buy boneless chicken pieces so not even that.
surely you know how much you will eat, it you only eat two potatoes don’t cook four.  Everything on our plates get eaten.
Rarely any rubbish to put out. Even rarer for recycling boxes.

I'm quite narky about the fact that nowhere seems to take Christmas cards for recycling anymore. At one time my local supermarket took them, and M&S used to as well. I have asked a couple of neighbours with small children if they would like them for school/ craft things but they are already inundated with them from the other parents. I have taken out any with glitter and put those in the general waste and the rest have gone in with the cardboard recycling.  I know they are still being recycled , but there was something very satisfying about putting them in a designated box where l knew what would happen to them. Anyway, off to take the decorations down now.
