Manuka shrubs

JanetlJanetl Posts: 31
Hello all,
I received 3 Manuka shrubs last week (no idea what they were and had to look it up!). They seem to grow to just over 1.5m wide, which is a little large for the space I have left. Is it possible to grow them in large tubs and keep them trimmed back? If not, planted in the ground and trimmed back on a yearly basis once they start to out grow their space.
Many thanks

I have never grown one as they are not hardy enough for my last garden and I haven't yet found any here.   It takes them a few years to get to full size and, like any shrub, they can be trimmed to size.  Best done after flowering finished in late spring.   You could try them in pots or the border as long as they are sheltered and the soil is well-drained.

Here's some cultivation advice on a close relative which may help - https://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/96413/Leptospermum-scoparium-Red-Damask-(d)/Details

Thanks for the info - best I do them in pots, then if gets really cold I can bring them into the (very cold) conservatory with all my other plants.
