Unusually large growth on wisteria bud

I’ve seen something of a freak occurrence on our mature wisteria plant. At first I thought it was a bag somebody had hung on the tree. Anybody got any ideas?

I must admit, when I first saw it my gut instinct was the it was a used contraceptive device flipped into the tree by one of the local street-roaming, underage-drinking teens.

I'm now thinking about attempting to grow these from seed!

You can grow from the seeds, but they may take many years before they flower. A layered shoot will root faster and could be in flower in as little as two years.

Ours are all covered with pods which do seem to be larger than I’ve noticed in past years. Poisonous to dogs if eaten apparently.
