Our friends across the pond do tend to pronounce things differently at times.
But I sort of say hook-er-ah, all joined up fast.

Interesting history of Palace purple. I saw Obsidian the other day Fairy, very mouthwatering.

@Lizzie27, if you don't mind looking at my pic you can see the white effect I mean?
It will save you getting on your hands and knees :D

Well, astilbes and heucheras may look different, but they both belong in the same family (Saxifragaceae).
Yes - but surely all that matters is whether you like them, or not, and whether they suit your conditions  :)
The heucherellas are a cross between the two -heuchera and tiarella. They're all very similar, although the tiarellas tend to have more defined, cut foliage. All great for insects and folaige colour. The Lime Marmalade one is a bit lettuce-y, and I wasn't sure about it, but I've grown to love it's acidic, sizzling green. It lights up dark spots where you need something really bright. It's great combined with other dark foliage like Ajuga or the dark Heucheras, which often just disappear in shade if planted on their own.  Great with bulbs  too  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Rubytoo, lovely pics, yes, that is the same effect on Amethyst Mist - which is really pretty and a lighter effect than Palace Purple. Goes beautifully with pale pink roses.

Fairygirl understand what you mean about using brighter things in shade, and sometimes you get things and have a doubt or minor dislike of, then a change of heart, like your Lime Marmalade lettucy one :D

Thanks Lizzy, I will also keep in mind Amethyst would be nice with pale pinks.
I hope your new peachy ones grow well for you.

  • I can well see how one could become addicted to Heuchera or Heucherella plants just by reading what species everyone has and how they vary in Summer compared to Autumn and Winter'

I only have a few mature plants but lots coming along and hoping some seeds i cast about will produce something different.

    Palace Purple.

    Melting Fire

Heucherella 'Sweet Tea',..as seen this week.

    In Summer.

One of the cuttings,..seems to vary from the other,..so far.

Love that "Sweet Tea" one Philip, been trying to get hold of another one, but bought the Fire Chief and Cherry Cola instead - very similar colours, as is Peach Flambe.

Maybe it won't be long before you are addicted @nultyphilip224. You have a lovely collection to start you off.
@Rubytoo Was pronouncing it wrongly! Glad I now know the correct way.  :)
  • @Lizzie27,..Cherry Cola and Peach Flambe are mouth watering names,..i hope they live up to the names in colour as well.

    @Fran IOM,..i feel the addiction has started,..lol.
