pot grown Christmas tree

This year I want to try again with pot grown Christmas trees, I've tried with my favourite Christmas tree a Norway Spruce but the tops have somehow always been broken off them. Ive seen Nordman Fir pot grown about 3ft for about £25. Whats the easier one to be grown in a pot the Norway Spruce or Nordman Fir? Im in the SW.

    The Norway spruce. Nordmans are too big and gappy/floppy IMHO. 
    The spruces are trimmed and pruned a bit anyway while they're farmed to get the best shape, and are much happier kept long term in pots than many others. Ideal for a traditional Christmas tree.
    I'm interested to know how the tops keep breaking off though. Is your fairy needing to go on a diet Kev?  :D
    I never have that problem.....
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Great timely post, I’m thinking of trying pot grown - even though we recycle the whole tree, as a gardener it seems wasteful to cut and throw something living out each year.
