I keep mine going all through the year, indoors. Look out for the tiny green caterpillars, you’ve probably only got one or two, they don’t particularly come out at night you can find them anytime. About half inch long and very thin, very bright green so hard to spot. Just read your post again, I have never taken them out of the pots and hung upside down for the winter!

I knew someone who did that with dahlias ... she said that hanging them upside down helped the hollow stems to drain and avoided rot setting in. But as pelargonium stems aren’t hollow I can’t see what good it would do ...
Wrapping them in newspaper and keeping them under the spare bed is how my granny over-wintered the pelargoniums she didn’t have room for on the windowsills.
