Drainage help

Hi I am installing artificial grass myself. Have nearly prepared first layer of sub base but with having nearly a week of rain the bottom of the garden is suffering from poor drainage.

Any ideas what I can do?

  • You may need to dig down deeper to discover why water isn't draining away. It could be you have  a 'clay pan' which causes the water to lay. Or it may be the water table is quite high in your area.
Certainly spend time getting the ground right before you put down your artificial grass.
It may pay to get some advice from a professional .

  • If your rain water isn't draining away, imagine how it will be when you have laid artificial grass.  Where is the excess rain water going to go?  You need soil with good drainage for the water to soak into. As far as I know, all these "hard" gardens either with concrete, tarmac, artificial turf or other man made surfaces are what is causing so many areas to flood in the winter. Gardens belong to nature, not man so do wildlife a favour and lay some grass instead.
