Alchemilla from seed

I need a lot of Alchemilla mollis to edge a long path. Everyone says Alchemilla self seeds everywhere...I have tried twice sowing bought seed with no success. Is there a secret to deliberately growing it from seed?

Sometimes buying a plant and then letting it seed on its own works better than sowing seeds yourself.I have Alchemilla all over the place!
I also tried growing seeds of Erigeron karvinskianus known for coming up in all sorts of nooks and crannies. Not a single one came up. I bought a plant and that has set seeds all over the garden!

  •  I have never tried growing it from seed, so I can't comment on that, however once it is established Alchemilla mollis is easy to divide  into pieces to grow on.  Can you find a someone with an established plant who would be willing to divide and share with you?
  • Buy one decent sized plant in a pot next spring when they start into growth  ... split it into 4 and pot up. In a few weeks you can split each one into 4 again so you have 16 ... they’ll split again at least once later in the year ... you’ll have plenty then.  :)

I find buying one plant and letting it seed naturally is the way to go with many plants. That way the seed is fresh when sown and sown at the right time

You can’t beat Nature’s own, they know when to germinate. Maybe scatter the seeds on the earth and stand well back.
