Shrub watering

wcarlwwcarlw Posts: 22
Hey guys its me again with a watering question.

Can i pour water into the ground straight from a bucket or do i have to use a watering can?

One is a quicker process than the other but ill do what i have to do. There is no facility to use a garden hose so its all manual.

I often tip the water out of a watering can via the hole for filling it. Much quicker  :)
I only use the spout when it's something small or more delicate, but not shrubs.

Yeah I was thinking about removing the spout to hurry the process. im doing it before work in the AM so I need to do it as quickly as possible.

If I could just pour the bucket that would be much much quicker but I don't want to hurt the shrubs in the process.

Just do it ! I often empty the excess rainwater from the three water-butts via the medium of a 3-gallon bucket straight onto the garden . never any harm done !

ha, better than not watering at all! thanks Paul ill try tomorrow
  • What are you watering at the moment?  The ground is nice and damp and the plants add shutting down for the winter ... nothings getting watered in this garden except just once when new  things are planted.

You get a lot more rain up in Scotland @fairygirl than we do in relatively arid East Anglia

The only potential problems with tipping water from a bucket are that it could run off instead of soaking in where it's needed, and if poured fast it could tend to wash away the soil from roots near the surface.  Pour more slowly if it looks as if either of these  is happening, otherwise carry on.
