Dahlias cut back too early??

Ann85Ann85 Posts: 64
hi without realising our mistake we cut all our Dahlias down to the soil level and mulched them today BEFORE the frost this week. I have just read that frost is esssntial for blackening the leaves and telling plant to set ready for ‘hibernation’. We live in Kent and it’s been so mild, none of the leaves were black, all healthy green. Will they come back next year?

They won't mind, weather should be getting much colder soon and I'm sure they'll realise.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
