Cluster of healthy looking mushrooms at base of Japanese Maple

It's a mature tree, moved back in January ... it is in a dry-ish spot but has been kept moist in the summer and has shown signs of regrowing at the end of summer.

I've cleared a lot of space around it (couple of feet from the trunk for most of it) and today I saw a large cluster of healthy looking mushrooms sprouting from the mulch about 20cm from the main trunk above a section of the root that is protruding.

Is this even a problem?

What's the mulch?   That may have contained mushroom spores or it may be something that's taken advantage of disturbed earth or it may have been present already in the soil and roots of the maple.

Can you post photos so the mushromm people can identify them?

Over the last few days I've noticed mushrooms appearing everywhere in my garden and lots on the lawn too.
It's probably just the time of year, but as above, a pic would help - just in case..

Hmmm I pulled them up as I was there ... if they "re-spawn" i'll send a pic.  But they were tightly clusterd, dark brown, each cup between 1cm and 2cm in diameter ... about 4-8" tall and in a symmetrical looking cluster about 8" in diameter.
  • Oh ... and the mulch was a mix of my own compost (which has produced the odd mushroom in the past) ... and bark chippings ...
