Don't be stingy; the man deserves more than that!
  • We used to be the same. Now we keep the light off to save energy - and money.
  • Very wise, rowlandscastle444.

Helen, you should tell your "friend" lots of "fun-loving" people don't.  I must admit I, personally, have never been overenamoured of it.  Bah humbug...

    ...  Bah humbug...
How apt.  You don't have to be Scrooge to see the bah humbugness of this "celebration" of "darkness" and "evil" even from its possible roots in the Irish "Jack o'Lantern" tale.

"Early Irish immigrants in the United States created the tradition of making a “jack-o’-lantern” at Halloween, originally intended to scare away evil spirits and protect them."

Others claim that its roots go back to Heathen Scotland. There was a Scottish celebration of the end of summer, "Shamhna".  The two seem to have evolved into the "Christian" All Hallows Evening.  I have it on good authority that not all Christians celebrate Halloween.

The internet is full of "explanations".

At home, we never celebrated this thing.  My father, who celebrated the food and gifts of Christmas and loved the old Carols, thought it was "such nonsense" ; my mother thought even less of it!  I won't repeat what OH thinks of it!

But as they say, to each his own...

That celebration of horribleness is a perfect excuse for me to ignore the finer points of housework.  The... cobwebs are such an excellent decoration for the occasion and they don't cost a single penny!

Is Bravuraman just showing disrespect for the PM or is she trying to inflame some people enough so that they revolt against all of us and what we "stand for", in order to declare herself right?  She seems to me rather a nasty piece of work.  Rishi-boy appears to be afraid of her.  What a terrible state of affairs.

She's something else, I admit.  When I'd heard more than enough about her latest outburst on the radio , I took the dog out for a long walk.  I'm just back.  Now I'm going to watch something good on television and try to get that nasty lot- not just her- out of my head.  That's how I cope with ghastly people!

I followed your "advice", Helen and felt the world of make-believe can be so much better
than the world of news and current affairs...
