Container grown Magnolia?

I am moving house soon and have a small, young Magnolia tree, planted this last spring, that I want to take with me, sentimental reasons. Does anyone know if a magnolia be grown in a container?

  • Some of the smaller types like stellata grow well in large containers.  Do you know which one you have?

If it's small, it will be fine in a decent sized container for a few years as long as there's room for its roots, the compost is right and you water and feed it according to its needs.
