Will my new climbing hydrangea destroy my fence?

Definitely only for a wall. I planted one at the last house, but wasn't there long enough to see the fruits of my labours. Someone else is having that pleasure. They really are the most beautiful climbers when seen in all their glory.
I first saw one when I was on holiday in the Lakes decades ago. It clothed the walls of a beautiful, traditional stone cottage.
None of the houses I've lived in have really had the right backdrop for them [apart from the last house] but I shall have one when I retire and move again  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thank you everybody! I have decided not to plant them and will look for something more suitable (probably pyracantha - I have a few already and they are looking really nice now).
  • Ours is on the garage wall, it goes 8' on the east wall then round the north side 15' and on. Now it's rambling through the pyracantha planted along the fence, that's another 20'. I can't get through the pyracantha hedge to paint! so don't. Mind you the hedge is solid anyway, if it crumbles the hedge will stay put.
