Norway spruce

Hi all, I wanted to purchase a small 1m Norway spruce in a pot to place at a memorial site for Christmas but wondered if anyone could advise if this would survive ok in an open outdoor environment? I think it would be ok from what I have read and I did ask at the shop but they were not very knowledgeable. I do not wish to plant it and it is only needed for Christmas but I wouldn’t want to get one only for it not to survive at all so I just wondered if anyone else has had this variety outside before?

Thanks

Clue's in the title Lilybeanz  ;)
Yes - it'll be fine. I'm making the assumption that you're in the UK,and that it will be in a suitable size of pot, and not left to it's own devices too long.
Just make sure it's not going to be knocked over by wind, and that it will have enough water. If it's out in the open, it should be fine, as there should be enough rainwater to keep it moist, but you need to make sure it's well watered initially.
It might be a good idea to dig a shallowish hole and drop the pot into that, to help it stay upright in windy weather.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

In their native habitat the Norway Spruce can see up to 4m(!) of rainfall per year ; one standing out in a pot will see nowhere near this , even in a UK Winter .
Have you thought of how you'll keep it wet ?
Some of the best trees are seen in Scotland and in Cumbria ; the abundant (and very welcome) rainfall here keeps them pristine .
Here in the eastern part of the UK there are not many really good specimens .

I think it's only going to be there over Christmas, Paul - so it should be ok.  :)
Any longer, and it would need regular attention to make sure it didn't dry out - unless it was in a wet area. Like here  ;)

You're not alone in thinking like that ; sometimes I have to sit and struggle to remember where we were working the previous day ! :o
