Alliums in pots for Christmas

Hello,  I've just bought some allium bulbs from Lidl, and I'm hoping to pot them up and give them as gifts for Christmas for flowering later in the year.  Am I ok to get ahead of myself and do the potting now and leave them in my unheated greenhouse for the duration?  Or is it better to do it nearer to Christmas.  They are all the large varieties, so advice on the the best size pot s to use would be helpful as well as I've only ever planted them in the ground before.  Cheers!

Any allium bulbs I've ever bought have been on sale at the same time as tulips/daffs etc. so I've always planted them in autumn for summer flowering and they've been fine. I'd pot them up now.
As for the size of the pots... That depends on the size of the bulbs.
