Grape vine cuttings

Would I be able to take cuttings of my grape vine now, if not when is the best time.

I have had success taking the cuttings in January. The plant is dormant at that time, all leaves off. The original plant has to be pruned then anyway, so use pencil thick shoots, about 30cm long. Cut just below a node, and insert in a deep bucket of gritty compost or a slit trench outside, in a semi shaded position. Do not allow to dry out.  They should root over the summer and ready to transplant this time next year
  • I now have a row of grape vines on the other side of my fence where prunings fell which I couldn't reach.  The land there is pretty much left to nature and I prune during the Christmas holidays, so I would say cuttings taken while dormant take rather easily.  Good luck with yours, Jason.

PS:  Some of those vines have now reached the top of some 10 year old Ash trees (about 10m tall), so they must be happy!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thanks for information I will wait till January.
