That's quite a work of art @Bizzie-Lizzie but I'm not too keen on the raw mushrooms tbh.
Have you got some specific leftovers in mind for savoury recipes ?

Never heard of one of those BL.  I shall look it up altho we're more likely to buy fresh hake around here.    We've just had a full British for brunch so will need something light for dinner and a good long walkies in between.

Josusa - I do bread and butter pudding with brioche, cramique, craquelin and add marmalade or dried fruit accordingly.   One of Possum's favourite desserts.

It's an old Cordon Bleue recipe.

Yes, I've looked it up.   Not my sort of thing at all tho sole, hake and prawns in combo would generally be a winner here.   Can't get mushrooms past Possum in any shape or form.

Cor busy-Lizzy, after eating 19 of your relatives for Christmas day, I am amazed you had room for any fish Boxing Day!

Chatting to fellow dancers after class last night and one couple in their 40s went to one of their parents for Xmas and "enjoyed" a meal that started at noon and ended at 9pm.  All they wanted the next day was a green salad and a piece of toast.

They must have been French, Obelixx. Loads of courses, potage (soup), paté, tomato salad or similar, fish, little something to clear the palate like a sorbet before the meat main course, cheese, lettuce salad (in France lettuce is eaten on it's own, often with the cheese), dessert, coffee (strong black) with petit fours. I've had that sort of thing with French people, takes ages!

Oh, forgot the bread! All pushed down with lots of bread. Here it has rock hard crusts and is mostly holes in the middle, so they can't butter it!

I know.  The Belgians do the same, the French speaking Walloons and Brabanters  anyway.   It's a marathon.  And then they do it all again on NY Eve but often its those huge platters of seafood and lobster.

All our dance colleagues are French as, so far, are the garden club people tho one or two have Belgian connections.   Same with the patchworkers.   OH has a few Brits and Irish in his golf club and some Belgians who've also retired here for better weather.

We spent New Year in Ireland with our relatives.  Daughter had made Nigella's date and marmalade Christmas cake, which was absolutely gorgeous... it also happens to be gluten free, if that's of interest to anyone.  Recipe on line.   :)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
