hi everyone, i'm in need of advice I have a well established Olive tree (6years). in the past I have covered it to protect from frost. do I still need to cover it or should I leave uncovered ???

    a bit more information would be good. Where you you live? how sheltered? frost pocket? warm corner?

  • I live in a semi-rural area of alsager stoke on trent. the tree is in the bottom corner of the garden with the garage to the left and a fence to the rear so it is quite sheltered.

    I think a hard winter is always likely to damage Olive trees anywhere other than the South of the UK.

    Once it's big enough your olive tree can survive a few degrees of frost for a short while but you risk losing the ends of branches and twigs to frost damage so keep an eye on the forecast and protect it with fleece or hessian or even an old net curtain as and when necessary.
