I’m thinking of hiring a garden chipper to chip up all of the leylandii branches and then use the chippings as a mulch for the new Portuguese laurel. Is this a good idea or will the chippings be too acidic etc? Thanks
@PaulN - Don't diss Sycamores! It's the pathetic size of many gardens that is the problem, not the tree. My rural garden is large and home to many trees, including several sycamores. This link says it all:
I know pine needles are acidic when still green changing to neutral pH once composted but not sure if that also applies to the cupressus family. To be safe, you could consider making a compost heap. Or mix the chippings 50/50 with ericaceous compost and grow blueberries in containers - they'd thrive on that mix.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
