I have to admit, I didn't know it was a sparrowhawk until we got to the rescue centre - I knew it was a bird of prey of some kind, but I don't normally see such beautiful birds in the built-up parts of where I live.
Luckily the rescue centre was about half an hours drive away, on the outskirts of Brighton, and is very much a one man centre - he's been doing it for ever, and helps hundreds and hundreds of animals every year from his home. I'll be giving him a donation towards the costs as I'm very lucky to have somewhere like that near(ish) by.
I just can't walk past an animal in need if I'm able to help - we share this planet so I see it as my moral duty to help where possible! I was just privileged that this time it was a beautiful sparrowhawk.
Thanks. He (?) landed on the railings outside the breakfast room window.I was sitting here, on my laptop, and I just picked up my camera, took a couple of photos and I didn't even have to get off my backside to do it.
Well done@Anna33, not easy birds to pickup with their talons! We have a regular here that has taken two magpies this summer. I used to volunteer at a wildlife rescue centre at weekends and loved every minute of it.
Brilliant Anna so glad you were able to help, and that it is good news too. Finding places to help can be difficult sometimes. We used to have a couple of good wildlife re-habbers in our area, one moved the other retired. Think it is a hard thing to do. So glad you can help. Will it be released back near where it was found?
We were at the Hawk Conservancy at Andover a few weeks ago, their hospital there takes BOP casualties. Apparently around fifty percent of them are saved, which was higher than I expected. Though they are specialized and are set up for them and have one of the best birdie vets in the country.

When i was a small boy we had a " Sunday Room " and I still dont know why it was called that but my brother and I were not allowed in. We were not posh just an ordinary family.
Everyone is just trying to be Happy.....So lets help Them.
