can a kind member please advise us on pruning the Cherry Tree & Ceanothus in the pics posted.

    Cut down one of the three main trunks to about 6 inches. Repeat for the next two years for the other two trunks. This is known as renewal pruning if you want to look up more info.

    Don't prune the cherry,  they really don't like it. In any event if you do decide to prune do so only in late Spring/early Summer.

    I beg to disagree Steephill. Cherries can be pruned but only in the summer to avoid silver leaf disease. Ceanothus don't like to be pruned, but if you must prune, only the top growth lightly after flowering. I wouldn't like to cut the main trunks down at all

    That looks like an evergreen ceanothus and I agree with Lizzie that they don't like being pruned. You certainly can't cut into the old wood. Deciduous ceanothus, such as Gloire de Versailles, can be pruned in the spring.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
