I've always taken basal cuttings in the spring when they start into growth, like this

     :)

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • My chrysanthemums have become quite straggly, is it best to trim them and let the new growth come up from the bottom of the plant? Suggestions appreciated
  • I usually support mine with canes as they tend to flop. I also move mine into the greenhouse before the first frost  - so fairly soon now! - and keep them going until they stop flowering so that I can keep picking them. Once they stop flowering, I cut them back and keep them in the greenhouse until next Spring when frosts are over. :)
