Lawn advice please!

My lawn despite 3yrs of trying to turn it round is completely strangled by weeds, vetch, a fern, and many others.  What can I use to completely kill all the weeds so I can rotavate and re seed in the spring?  happy to kill grass as well as there"s not much left but need to see off all the weeds.

If you want to kill everything that's green on your 'lawn' then glyphosphate is probably your best bet.
Roundup is the most common brand and you can buy it concentrated (which will be much cheaper) and use a backpack sort of sprayer rather than in a spray bottle.
I use Rosate36 which is also glyphosphate, but much stronger.
Either will do what you want, BUT in order for glyphosphate to work, it must be used during the growing season - ideally from April to Sept, as it'll only work if the plants are growing. Once sprayed on, everything should be completely dead in about 3 weeks.
This time of year plants are shutting down for winter, so it's unlikely to work.
Be careful using it as if you get the spray on a plant you like, it'll kill it.

If you kill everything now you'll be left with nothing but a muddy patch, getting muddier and muddier through the winter ... best wait until the growing season.
