Leaf and stem cuttings

Red mapleRed maple Posts: 1,138
Good afternoon,
Ive just spent an enjoyable hour or so taking a few begonia leaf cuttings and some geranium stem cuttings which I've now potted up, using rooting hormone powder on the cuttings and a grit and compost mix in the pots. My question, which might seem silly, but I've never taken cuttings from these plants before, is where to over winter them? Is a windowsill in the house better, or can I put them in my mini greenhouse which is unheated - not sure how they will cope with frosty conditions? All I've got left to do now is cover them with perforated plastic bags then they are ready to go. Any advice really appreciated. I've always bought plants new from the garden centre, but thought I'd try propagating these as the flowers on them are so pretty. (The begonias are fibrous, therefore I can't lift the mother plant to over winter the tubers at first frost, sadly).

yes they will need protecting from frost, a sunny window still will be fine if you don't have a greenhouse

Thank you, treehugger80. I have a mini greenhouse, but as I said, it's  unheated, so I'll use your method and keep them on the kitchen window sill.
Ive also seen on a video not to cover the pelargonium cuttings with a polythene bag as they will rot, so I've left them uncovered and just covered the begonia leaf cuttings. Fingers crossed that some of them will take!  :):)
