I'm growing them for the first time and just about to plant them out. I haven't got enough space for early/mid/late varieties, so I got a perpetual strawb. Mara des Bois which should fruit from July till Oct. and is reputedly the top choice for chefs. I'll let you know next year I've got raspberries, blueberries and blackcurrants for early/mid summer and next year hopefully strawberries when the others have finished

Marshmello, or Marshmarvel from Marshalls seeds, both perform well in the garden, reputedly bred for taste but they do not travel well or keep a long time so were not suited to comercial use. Pick & use as soon as possible.

I can confirm that Mara des Bois fruits till October - I have a few berries ripening right now on two-year old plants. We haven't had any frost this year yet, so may be this is the reason. There are even a few flowers right now which I probably will have to remove as there is no way they will grow into fruits this season.
I also like Sweet Colossus - very large, sweet berries.
Tried a new variety this summer, called Buddy, very nice indeed, vigorous, sends out some runners, so easy to propagate and share.
That's interesting BBS Are you pleased with the Mara des Bois? I'd be keen to know what your thoughts are re flavour and yield I've just been digging some manure into the bed and will plant mine tomorrow

I like the flavour, though it seems to differ slightly form berry to berry. They are nice and sweet and flavoursome, but I still don't get the hype around them. The yield is ok, but frankly I don't think I gave them a fair chance as I didn't take much care of them this summer. Plus I grow them in hanging baskets, where they probably don't have enough space and possibly suffered from the heat and drought in the last few months. I'm sure you are preparing a much nicer bed for your plants, so you should get a better harvest.
They are pretty plants, with lovely white flowers, hardly send out any runners (which I think is good). So yes, I like them and definitely will continue growing them - will be keeping and planting the only runner they produced between the four of them this summer
Thanks for that BBS - I appreciate your thoughts I'll look forward to some tasty strawberries next year I've not grown strawberries before so I've prepared a well-manured bed in full sun and will put a cage over them.

Yes, apparently the best for flavour is Marie De Bois - which is an "everbearer". I have not grown it yet but have some on order. Apparently top chefs use it. There are some variants of this plant too.
