Is my Lonicera dying?

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help.

I've got a Lonicera hedge and bush and both are looking poorly.

The more serious issue is the hedge. Picture 2 shows about two feet on the right hand side has died. I can replace it but am worried that the rest may die anyway. Any thoughts?

Then there are also pictures of the bush where the leaves are turning a reddish brown.

Picture 5. Not the hedge but a bush. It has lost all it's body and seems to be falling away.

IMHO it's not the best plant for a "tall" hedge. Great if you want something about 2 feet high, but , in my experience, this is how they end up if they're left to  get tall.
I'd cut it back next Spring and keep it shorter.

They also like plenty of moisture - they never fare as well in drier conditions.
Cut it back hard, as Hosta says, and let it get some air around it, and it should revive.

You can take a bit off it now as well.  The autumn and winter rain will help it.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Thanks for the advice, Fairygirl and Hostafan1. I appreciate it.
