Autumn watering of transplanted small and mature trees

in Plants
I've had a busy summer of trying to get the positioning of some small and mature trees right in my garden, with some of the young Japanese Maples going into containers for the time being.
Anyway - I just wondered - for tree (mostly Japanese Maples, Magnolias and Wisteria trained as standards) in the ground or in container, once the leaves have dropped, would you water them after a period of no rain? Or just leave them alone until to Spring regardless of weather?
