Mushroom explosion

Hi everyone,

In one corner of my garden I suddenly have an explosion of mushrooms.  There is a tree stump which was a Sycamore cut down before we moved here 3 years ago.  I planted the area last summer (2017) and then left it to do it's own thing.  This year there is suddenly loads of mushrooms around what I planted.  The tree stump has always had bracket fungus but these are different.
Is it honey fungus?  How come it's only in the area that was dug over and replanted a year ago.  It didn't appear last autumn.
Thanks

look on the stem of the individual mushroom, if it has a little skirt of material about halfway up it very well might be honey fungus
  • Thanks for responses.  Here is a picture of stem and little white skirt......

that does look like honey fungus, probably spent a few years building up in the sycamore root before it could get to the size to 'fruit'

That is indeed honey fungus. Quite  a nice crop you have there, sorry I can't advise on plantings that will cope with it though.
