Horse manure

  • Thanks for all your helpful advice re: bags or heaps. We will keep it bagged up for now.  I want to use some on my roses in the next few weeks - always do although I am not sure that it makes much different.  The rest will get dug into the veg plot for the courgettes and squash growing next year.  We are able to get free bagged horse manure, there are various places on the island where horses are kept.  Farmyard manure is more difficult to find - most farmers use it on their fields during the winter months.

    I'm super lucky, my neighbour brings the horse poo to me. 
    He brings it ,usually once a week,in a trailer in those big twin handled buckets and he sticks one bucket in each "dumpy sack".

    Can't beat that Hosta. Perfect for the big areas you have too.  :)
    I'd also say horse manure rather than 'cow' is far better, in general. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
